Department Of Nursing Foundation

The Nursing foundation department shoulders the responsibilities of mentoring novice nursing students who enter the portals of SKS college of nursing. Our aim is to empower students with desirable knowledge, attitude and skills to work in various clinical settings and to develop holistic and professional nurses with deep rooted commitment to lifelong learning and service.

The student nurses are molded in the realms of physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual development. All efforts are enthrallment on assuring that the student metamorphoses from a "bud to blossom".

The traditional class room teaching with advanced flexible e-learning approach enables them to learn more creatively with course facilitator. This approach also accommodates student nurse's in a different learning pace and styles. In addition, it exposes students to additional information through attachments and links provided by course facilitators. Through eclectic teaching learning approach and e-learning techniques, the department has made learning more fruitful and interesting for the students.

Adult Health Nursing

The Adult Health Nursing department empowers the students to render holistic nursing care in various health care settings to become competent Nurses. It deals with the courses related to adult health nursing including geriatrics within the framework of the curriculum formulated by the Indian Nursing council. The Department of Adult Health Nursing trains undergraduate, Clinical Specialty students with the advanced teaching methods utilizing global standard simulation based learning, renowned laboratories under the guidance of proficient and experienced teaching personnel, AHA Instructors with adherence to the concepts of Hands on Care.

The clinical services of the department includes collaborative approach with clinical supervision of student nurses, patient care, and conduction of awareness programs and conferences, clinical administration and research activities. The services are dispensed in various areas of the hospital that include general Medical Surgical wards, outpatient departments, specialty wards, critical care units, intensive care units and operation theatre, advanced diagnostic and procedural areas.

The activities of Adult Health Nursing Department facilitate and ensure the student nurses to engage in reciprocal relationships, embrace the essence of caring, engendering instances of empathy, and embodying theory in practice towards the development of competent professionals. The department imparts the student nurses to excel and expertise in contemporary nursing towards the world of wellness.

Community Health Nursing

Community Health Nursing department prepares the student nurses to satisfy the ever-changing challenges of society. The programme orients the students to the concept of positive health and successful living and focuses on the community in the aspect of health promotion. The students identify and solve the health problems within the community through innovative and price effective strategies of primary health care. The department actively participates in education, training, service and research in the field of community.

This experience includes opportunities for participation in various National Health Programmes and an array of guided observation visits to various locations of public health importance. The Department regularly organizes household surveys, epidemiological investigations, health projects, mass campaigns, home visits, health care programs, school health programs, special clinics, etc. in the adopted villages. The awareness campaigns, exhibitions, and health education activities organized in the villages train the students to effectively interact with the community on health topics.

Midwifery / Obstetrics & Gynecology Nursing

The department aims towards excellence in clinical practice and strives to provide the students with various aspect of midwifery to be competent and caring midwives. We ensure effective and efficient services to our student community & enable them to function as educators, managers and researchers in the field of OBG Nursing. The Department activities includes:

• Observes International Midwives Day, Breast Feeding Week, Safe Motherhood Day, Breast Cancer awareness month etc., by conducting exhibition, scientific session, quiz, role play, debates, Health education & cultural programmes.
• Conducts Continuing Nursing Education
• Participates actively towards promotion of independent and collaborative research.
• Incorporate evidence-based Nursing practice and identify the areas of research in the field of obstetrics and gynecological nursing.
• Extends professional services to community.
• Participates in the college development activities.

Child Health Nursing

The department of Child Health Nursing provides courses related to child health nursing within the framework of the curriculum of the Indian Nursing council (INC). Child health nursing department focuses on providing nursing care to the children, both normal and sick. It also helps the student nurses to identify the growth and development of the children according to their age group and makes each one of them to find out the abnormalities. The education will help the students to provide holistic care to the child.

The department provides student-centered teaching and learning in conducive atmosphere that helps the student nurses to realize confidence in their nursing knowledge and skills. The department cares with training the students in developing the knowledge and skills required to relay on health care needs of infants and adolescents and their family during various settings. Importance is given to the evidence based practice and safeguarding the health of the child and the family. The department offers the students to spot the requirements of children and provide comprehensive care.

Mental Health Nursing

The Mental Health Nursing department is committed to provide world class education to the budding Mental health student nurses. It mainly focuses on enlightening the theoretical knowledge of human behavior in scientific context and appreciate the application of knowledge in clinical practice.

The student nurses are nurtured by experienced and dedicated teachers in rendering quality education. Multidisciplinary teaching and learning methods paved a way for the student to acquire in-depth knowledge in care of clients with mental health issues. Interdisciplinary case discussion, professional learning, problem-based learning was inculcated in both theoretical and practical areas. It helps the students to be expertise in crisis intervention, mental health assessment, psychopharmacology and psychological therapies.

Mental health student nurses are trained effectively to function with the clients and help them to manage their mental illnesses and live productive, fulfilling lives in both health care industries and community. The department has a well-equipped air-conditioned guidance and counseling center to facilitate positive development of every student in respect to their individuality and provide opportunities for professional development.
